- Third world woman is not monolithic
- Separate gender from her context….only of importance because she fits into one category…categorized in shared oppression
- Woman’s place is not in things she does, but in meanings ascribed to what she does
- Reductive cross-cultural comparisons = colonizations of the specifics of daily existence = women in the 3rd world have “needs” and “problems” but no “choices
- Category of womanhood = ahistorical unity
- Can say that there are tons of women wearing the veil, but the meaning ascribed to it is different across different contexts
- Sexual division = meaning ascribed to it is an assumed gender imbalance
- Third world Women as just one group of people are looked at as subjects without social relations
- Ethnocentric universality
